We stayed here in January 2016. When we checked in, a very friendly staff (Shirley Ferguson, the night manager and Lyle Fox) greeted us with a smile. Shirley was careful to make sure we were aware that construction was in progress to remodel the pool area. As it turns out, for the night and morning we were there, there was no noise problem at all.
First impression: clean! The beach-front Best Western New Smyrna Beach Hotel & Suites, according to Shirley, is 30 years old. Amazing. It is so spotlessly clean and well-maintained it looks like a new facility. Our top floor king room was a single room but has suite amenities: a full size fridge, microwave, utensils, plates, bowls, glasses, cups, and sink with dish washing supplies.
The bed and pillows are high-end comfortable. Tempered and tinted hurricane windows (alas, not full wall size) offer a view to the beach and ocean below. A strong door with the same tempered glass opens to a large private balcony that offers a panoramic view of the beach front and surrounding area. The rooms are inset from each other so that one must be at the left edge of the balcony to see the next one—a nice design to offer privacy without a restricted view.
Our bathtub had a wonky drain plug that was tricky to close. There is great water pressure, so the multi-function showerhead actually works well unlike those at most hotels.
Giving a clue to the hotel's age, there is no convenient power outlet near the bed sides. One side of the bed has an outlet 6 feet away with no available plug unless a light or clock is unplugged. My solution was to use one of the external USB batteries that I travel with. Then I can use my smartphone to read Kindle books in bed. Many hotels now provide lamps with power outlets in their base. Some now are even providing USB charging stations (which might be built into a clock). Then only a USB cable is needed. A suggestion I'll make to this hotel.
Our January morning opened at 45 degrees as we awakened to gorgeous sunrise, the temperature rising to a balmy (for us who live further north) 65 degrees. But, at that temperature, it was too windy to take a stroll on the beach. When it's warmer it looks like a beautiful beach to enjoy.
This Best Western does not offer a free breakfast but it does have a breakfast/lunch dining room with reasonable prices and a picturesque view of the beach and ocean while eating.
I can happily recommend this hotel without reservation, but you'll need to make one.
