The model reviewed: OxyLED MD30
As an emergency flashlight for your car, this product will serve very well. It is small enough to fit easily in a glove compartment (8" x 1.4"diameter). It is light weight (5.4 ounces) yet sturdy (aircraft grade aluminum). This flashlight runs on three AAA batteries (not included) and is simple to operate—one switch. Each click rotates through its three functions: flashlight, work light, and red emergency flash.
Some mention a rechargeable battery pack. Mine did not come with that or a case also mentioned by some reviewers. The specs call for 1.5V AAA batteries, noting that it is not compatible with 1.2V rechargeable Ni-MH batteries.
The flashlight's LED is very bright. It has a spot focus with some light emanating around the spot and the beam is not adjustable. there are also 3 LEDs that light up around the outside of the end housing (bright enough to see but not blinding to the user), giving increased visibility in an emergency situation.
The work light is on the side of the flashlight and has 18 exceedingly bright LEDs.
The red emergency flash has 8 bright flashing red LEDs (one of mine was dead), on the side plus 3 around the flashlight housing, offering high visibility from any angle.
One of the most impressive features to me is a very strong magnet on the base of the flashlight. When mounted to a magnetic surface, it sticks! Even pointing out to the side.
It also comes with a handy wrist strap pre-installed.
Conclusion: At $20 it is costly, but this is a quality flashlight that is handy any time, with special value in a road emergency situation.
